With over 45,000 Waterjet units installed worldwide, our client’s operations represents the latest in waterjet technology and is recognised as the world’s most experienced waterjet manufacturer. The New Zealand based company employs 280 people in all aspects of waterjet design, manufacture and distribution, exporting 98% of production through both direct and distributor sales channels.
This position presents a challenging opportunity for the right person to manage all aspects of a manufacturing unit within a heavy engineering environment. The controls cell encompasses machining and assembly of hydraulic and electronic components for our range of jets.
We seek applicants with a strong background in quality manufacturing, ideally with a knowledge of both engineering and electronic production systems. The MCL has full responsibility for the timely delivery of high quality components, ensuring on time, cost effective delivery to an order-based production plan. There is an emphasis on continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes in order to reduce waste and increase productivity.
This will require a strong people manager who will ensure the effective leadership across multi-shift teams, maintaining a focus on internal customer delivery. A hands on and pragmatic style is considered essential in this business. A relevant technical qualification in engineering and/or electronics is also desirable.
Qualifications and Attributes required are:
- Experienced in Bespoke low volume Electronic Manufacture & Assembly
- Hands on person with significant Electronics experience
- An understanding from through hole technology to latest technology (including Surface Mount Technology – SMT)
- An understanding of testing equipment & procedures, with the ability to enhance the Testing Fault finding ability
- Ability to be able to Commission Systems in the Field, if required
- Experience in NPI
- Minimum Level 6 qualified in Electronics
- Six Sigma trained
- Emphasis on ability to manage the Process
- A good knowledge of process flow techniques and cell layouts to maximise the flow of products through the cell and eliminate waste activity
- Ability to ensure that all products conform to specification and in accordance Test Procedures Technical Information Sheets (TIS) and Visual Method Sheets (VMS) & improve processes
- Ability to train staff to IPC Standards within our client’s Training Matrix
- Introduce / maintain Key Performance measures including Yields, trend analysis, fault finding and subsequent corrective actions
- Ability to network/communicate and engage with our client’s Process Engineering & Tech Services Teams
- Understanding material control practice which plays an important part in the day-to-day running of the cell and continuity of supply planning.
